9 Unique Books for gifting at a Baby Shower

Birchys-Books-Blog

Best Books for Baby Shower Gifting:

The idea of gifting a book with a heartfelt note at baby showers has become more and more popular over the years and it is easy to see why👇

❌Cards are often only ever read once before being packed up into a cupboard or even thrown out!

✔️Books however, are read again and again and with it – the message you have so thoughtfully handwritten.

If you want to know how to ask for a book instead of a card – here are 9 eloquent ways to do exactly that!

What makes the best book for gifting at a baby shower?

📚 There are things to consider.

While it’s not horrible having multiple copies of the same book as wear and tear is expected when reading with babies, *cough* toddlers! *cough* and young children… it’s always nice gifting a unique book. The classics are popular for a reason though – they are brilliants books – So I’ve include a lot of those in this list, too.

But, in the list below, you will also find some hidden gems – less common children’s books that will be certain to make your gift a memorable one.

Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes

By Mem Fox | Illustrated by Helen Oxenbury

Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes is a 2008 children’s picture book by Mem Fox and Helen Oxenbury. It is about babies, who, although they are from around the world, all share the common trait of having 10 little fingers and ten little toes.

A beautiful book and one of our favourites, for sure!

The First Year

By Emilie Tunstill| Illustrated by Elle Dawson-Scott

⭐Unique book option for baby shower gift⭐

The First Year is a keepsake children’s book, with a touching story about the adventures mama and bub have together in the first year – the highs, lows and everything in between. It helps new mums feel seen – normalising the challenges of that first year, while also celebrating the pure joy that a new baby brings. You & your baby will love the details of the illustrations.

Love Your Forever

By Robert Munsch| Illustrated by Sheila McGraw

This book is a must read – First published in 1986! Yep – this book first appeared on shelves almost 40 years ago & the world still raves about this sweet story.

I was gifted this one at my baby shower from my Aunty & Uncle. It highlights the stages of motherhood until the very end (literally). It’s a beautiful story and I doubt you will be able to get through it without shedding a tear or two (I’m a blubbering mess by the time I finish this one). It will make you want to hug your babies that little bit tighter & slow down your days with them (which is always a good reminder to be honest).

Mum Life by Paula Kuka

⭐Unique book option for baby shower gift⭐

For something a little different & not really a children’s book [although babies and toddlers would appreciate the bright illustrations!]

This one is for mum. Artist Paula Kuka has written & illustrated this book that so perfectly (& accurately) encapsulates all that it means when you say ‘mum life’

This book will help remind any mum in the trenches that she’s not alone – no matter how dark & quiet the room feels during those middle-of-the-night feeds.

*A great one for gifting to mum a few weeks/months after baby arrives.

Do you have an idea for a book but not sure where to start?

By Courtney Birch| Illustrated by Kathy Pugh

⭐Unique book option for baby shower gift⭐

This book follows a mother and her baby as they water the plants in their backyard – Flowers, fiddle-leaf figs, bee’s and fruit trees, this book has all the favourites for mum’s in their plant-lady-era (much like I was [& still am] when I wrote the book!).

Though, this book isn’t just about watering plants – it’s also a gentle reminder for mums to not only connect with their baby and nature, but to look after their pelvic floor health in pregnancy and postpartum, too – making it a great book to gift a new or soon-to-be mum.

*Completely unbiased opinion obviously…

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

A classic book and a popular one for gifting (we did end up with 2 copies of this book – one for the car and one at home 💁‍♀️).

But again – popular for a reason – it’s engaging storyline, interactive pages and bright illustrations mean the kids love this one (I like reading it, too!)

Wish Baby is a heart-warming story with rhyme and cute illustrations. It shares a positive message of hope from a mother’s wishes for her child and the person that they would become.

Told from a mothers point of view, Wish Baby inspires young children to grow up with qualities and values for a happy life. A great option for a baby shower gift for all parents-to-be.

Another classic and ANOTHER by Australian Author – Mem Fox (👏). Every home needs the Green Sheep on it’s shelves. I particularly like the end when we are reading it at bedtime *spoiler alert* … “ah look, that cheeky Green Sheepy is asleep – time for you to go to bed, too!” 😉
