🥦 🥕 🍅 🫑 🍠

I’m a sucker for a children’s book with a health promotional message. So, when I came accross these books, I knew I had to add them to our ever-growing collection of stories that encourage a positive attitude towards including vegetables in our diet!

Reading picture books about vegetables is a clever and subtle way to expose our kids to healthy foods & habits that will hopefully last a lifetime! Check out some of our favourites below 👇

Broccoli Tree's? Yes PLEASE!

Written by Melissa Kent| Illustrated by Tara Johnson

By using play and imaginative games, this book manages to make my son smile and laugh about celery, spinach, cauliflower and carrot. I kid you not – days after reading this book we had dumplings with a spinach salad. My 3yo ate all the spinach without batting an eyelid. Thanks Melissa Kent!

Bocci the Brave, Dr Red Pepper & The Wild Rice are the first of nutritionist Lisa Baker’s books released in her Dinner Plate Pals collection and I must say – I am a little obsessed with these books! The quirky illustrations & captivating storyline will – I’m sure – engage your little one & pique their interest in the type of foods put on their plate at mealtimes. Backed by her nutritionist degree – Lisa Baker dedicates each book to her featured food. In her words, these books are:

“Wildly imaginative, scientifically sound”.

books to get kids to eat healthy food

Written by a Melbourne GP who has an important message for parents on the first page, this book is such a bright and bubbly story about RAINBOWS!.. and who doesn’t love a rainbow?!

*P.S – the rainbows in this story are all the fruit and veges – now we count how many rainbows are in each of our meals, too! It’s so cute when my son digs through his food to excitedly find, count and most importantly EAT the ‘rainbows’. Well done Doctor Preeya! 👏

Rainbow plate will help you create some magic in the kitchen and some rainbows on the plate! Make healthy eating and a diet rich in fruit and vegetables fun, engaging and magical for children!
