🪴Wet your plants, not your pants.
Now obviously I love it when the kids enjoy reading my book, but gee when I get feedback from a mum that said the book encouraged her to organise a women’s health physio appointment – it’s just EXTRA FREAKING AMAZINGLY, WONDERFULLY COOL! And also… it’s kind of the whole idea!
💡 After writing the story and then realising the title – My Mum Wets Her Plants, I knew I had to sneak a little health promotional message in there. I’m a nurse and a big believer in that prevention is always better than a cure.
About My Mum Wets Her Plants
Published in September 2023, My Mum Wets Her Plants is actually a children’s picture book that’s storyline has nothing to do with pelvic floor exercises. It’s a rhyming story that follows a mum and her baby through their garden as they water the plants.
If you’re a mum in your plant lady era, chances are that you will enjoy reading this one with your babies. It mentions all the plant-mum favourites like the fiddle-leaf-fig, succulents, herbs and of course – the flowers.
The story is dedicated to the mums reading it [as well as my son who inspired me to give this whole author-thing a go] and serves as a gentle reminder for these mums to look after their pelvic floor health.
So much more than just the pelvic floor
I was fortunate to involve a Women’s Health Physio (WHP) in my own pre and postnatal care for both my pregnancies and postpartum. I hope that one day, access to such specialised services will become standard practice in our health system so all mums-to-be can be supported with expert advice, when our pelvic floors need it most.
Below are reviews of my book by some wonderful WHP’s – some of which stock my book in their clinics. Be sure to give them a follow on their socials, so you can get a glimpse of what a WHP is all about and how they can help you during pregnancy, postpartum and beyond.
Spoiler alert…
… Women’s Healthy Physio’s are SO much more than just the pelvic floor 💁🏻♀️

My mum wets her plants always gets a double-take when clients spy it sitting on the bookshelf in our clinic - we love the story of a mum and toddler spending quality time together in nature. We particularly like the shout-out to mums to remind them to prioritise their health and recovery [from birth] by attending their women's healthy physio review postpartum. Here's to wetting our plants- and NOT our pants!

My Mum wets her plants is such a great little book that my kids love to read! even better, Birchy's books cleverly weaves in an important message about incontinence after childbirth! as a women's pelvic health physiotherapist, i love how much Birchy's books is championing the message that while incontinence is common, it doesn't have to be the norm!!

'every day my mum wets her plants' - my favourite quote from the sweetest book I've ever read. This sits in my waiting room and is read by many women as a gentle reminder to get help if you are 'wetting your plants'

I have this book in the clinic for anyone who would like to read it... Courtney has created a book that normalises that incontinence exists and reinforces that need for treating it - written in a compassionate and very light way

Every time I see your book around the house I do a pelvic floor exercise
This has got to be up there as one of the best comments I have ever received about my first children’s book – My Mum Wets Her Plants.
A children's book with a message for the mums...
