The First Year

By Emilie Tunstill| Illustrated by Elle Dawson-Scott

Best baby shower book

The First Year is a beautiful keepsake children’s book, with a touching story about the adventures mama and bub have together in the first year – the highs, lows and everything in between. Following their journey from birth to first birthday, it highlights the special bond between a mother and her new baby. Babies will enjoy listening to the heartfelt rhyming tale – feeling love and connection from their mums. At the same time, it helps new mums feel seen – normalising the challenges of that first year, while also celebrating the pure joy that a new baby brings.

Love Your Forever

By Robert Munsch| Illustrated by Sheila McGraw

Best book for baby shower

This book is a must read – First published in 1986! Yep – this book first appeared on shelves almost 40 years ago and the world still raves about this sweet story. I was gifted this one at my baby shower. It highlights the stages of motherhood until the very end (literally). It’s a beautiful story and I doubt you will be able to get through it without shedding a tear or two. It will make you want to hug your babies that little bit tighter and want to slow down your days with them.

My Mummy Loves Me

By Sallie Dick

A short, rhyming story (perfect for bedtime) about how much mums love their kids.

By Courtney Birch| Illustrated by Kathy Pugh

This book follows a mother and her baby as they water the plants in their backyard. Each page has beautifully hand-drawn illustrations by artist Kathy Pugh.

Flowers, fiddle-leaf figs, bee’s and fruit trees, this book is perfect for story time with your little one.

Though, this tale isn’t just about watering plants – it’s also a gentle reminder for mums to not only connect with their baby and nature, but to look after their pelvic floor health in pregnancy and postpartum, too!
